I am in the market for a 14″ bandsaw and I am not finding much useful guidance out there. I am a weekend woodworker and plan to spend the rest of my life of weekends figuring it all out.
I had an 18″ Bridgewood in my shop from a friend who did not have room for it but suddenly found an empty spot, leaving me with a gaping hole . . . I am hoping to spend as little as possible but still be able to effectively and *safely* resaw some mahogany and cherry boards that I came upon to try my hand at making something that is not painted (for a change).
Does anyone have any recommendations on how I could get a tool that will behave as I hope (maybe not quite like the Bridewood, but not a disaster) and serve my needs for the intermediate/long term? I am shooting for 14″ to save on the budget . . .
I have looked at Grizzly and Ridgid (decent reviews) but will either really fit the bill?
Thanks – CAL

Christian,
Last year I bought the Delta 206 (14", 1 HP) for $410 at Rockler. I believe a similar sale is going on right now....price knocked down $100, $50 gift cert. It actually ended up being a bit less expensive than the Grizzly. However, when you add in riser block, fense, etc. the Griz is less.
Anyhow, after a bit of learning and fine tuning it's resawing beautifully. I'm sure I would have been just as happy with the Griz.
Thanks all for the feedback. This is the first time I have used this site and its already invaluable.
I think I'll go for the Griz and discount shop the heck out of it. I'll drop back in (hopefully soon) and let you know how it works out. Again, the Delta always shows up tops but I have not found any offers for a 14" 1hp in my price range.
I have seen warnings about Griz blades, though and thought to invest in a woodslicer (very well reviewed) at time of purchase. No need to be unnecessarily disappointed off the bat.

Hey Cal,
I have a G0555 Griz. It's be a great saw. 2 years no problem. I do not have the resaw kit but I think it would work fine with a GOOD blade and practice. It's not going to be that 18" Bridgewood for sure but as far as a 14" BS it should serve your purposes well. Griz went up in price at new years but they are still reasonable. There may be some other saws out there for less though.
Good luck.
Jimmy
as always I wish you enough
I dont know if you can still get them but a couple weeks ago Grizzley was offering a closeout on 14" band saws. $259 I think.or pretty close to that + $50 shipping. If you see Buzz Saw in here ask him about it since he bought one.

I have the Delta 14" "Anniversary Edition" - comes with mobile base, fence, circle cutting jig - got it about 3 years ago. Don't know if they still sell something like it. But I'm pretty happy.

Measure it with a micrometer, mark it with chalk, cut it with an ax.
There's a thread titled "bandsaw question" here and one of the posters will be selling their 14".

Thanks - I'll check it out. CAL
