looking for a mortising bit replacement
I broke the bit in my Delta mortising machine. Delta lists replacement bits for this 5/16″ chisel and bit set but I cannot find someone who sells the bits only. Since it is a Delta chisel I would like to buy Delta bits ( Delta number 17-917). Any ideas out there?

I just read a review by Bob Lang in that off-shoot publication Pop Woodworking is doing.
Interstingly, he said save yourself the money on Clico's which are the high-end chisels, and buy either the Woodcraft of Highland house brands.
Call Delta and ask if they will sell you the bit only -- I suspect they will. the number is (800) 223-7278.

Thank you for the phone number. That looks like the only choice that I have left.
Don't let 'em charge you too much. The Delta chisel and bit is only $11.99 from Woodcraft:http://www.woodcraft.com/family.aspx?FamilyID=1840********************************************************

That's assuming that its a made in China bit and not a made in Austria bit. Delta has bits with origins of manufacture in both countries. That said, I've also read good reviews of the WoodCraft bits and chisels.
Me too (re: the Woodcraft bits), but curiously, they did not show up on a search of their site.********************************************************

Interesting, I can't find them either. The closest I can get is to put in "mortiser" into the keywords and then they show up under one of the mortisers you select. From there, you can get a part number, but it still doesn't show up on the website!
