Looking for a ‘solid surface’ square
Several years ago we bought a heavy duty square and now would like another. Our supplier doesn’t carry them any longer and can’t remember who made them. He did say that they were popular with the solid surface guys. The square is heavy duty, made totally of aluminum. The handle, green in color, had a squeeze clutch which allowed it to ride along the rule and then lock in place. The rule, black in color, was approx 7/16” x 2 ½” and ours was 24” long. They also had 18” and 36” models and perhaps longer, I don’t recall. There are no names, markings or numbers on the tool. Can anyone point us to the mfg or a dealer who might carry such a square?
TIA

We have one kicking around the shop. Be kind of ironic that because they never put their name on the tool they forced themselves out of business. I can't recall seeing them around in any catalogs for a long time and I do purchasing so I get paid to read wood catalogs.
Grizzly offers machinists layout blocks of granite, if I understand your query. Various sizes and heavy as H-El double hockey sticks.

jimmr is looking for a particular kind of square that has more of less disappeared from the market. He isn't looking for granite surface plates. I can't imagine what made you think that if you read his post or mine.
Because sometimes I am a dope! Didn't see the first post and the second tickled my memory stream with the granite plate contained in my response. Anyway, I liked my answer even if it was the wrong one. Got sorta used to that in high school.

You might give Art Betterly Enterprises a call (763)755-3425. For years they've made specialty routers and tools for solid surface and laminate work. If they don't have what you're looking for they might know who does. http://www.betterleytools.com/index.htm
