I am looking to make a chest and would like to get some ideas from anyone who may have something very artistic, organic, combination of woods…
Thanks,
Gedaliah

For an interesting tool chest, see the small tool chest in the Woodwright's Shop by Roy Underhill. Somebody took this design and published it with detailed design specs as a cover story in FW about a year ago last May. You can find a copy in your local library. A very good practice piece. I made a couple last year for Christmas gifts. Now that I've got the craftmanship down, I'm going to make one for myself. You may also want to take a look at Treasure Chests, also published by Taunton Press. Also available at your public library.

Dear Gedaliah,
Allow me to recommend Jim Tolpin's "The Toolbox Book." It is full of great tool storage ideas with great photography and text that explains the rationale behind each craftsman's design and execution. You can get it from Taunton Press or any large bookstore.

Gedaliah,
You didn't specify any particular type of chest so I'll show you one of my latest. It is a cedar chest or blanket chest made of Eastern Red Cedar. The exterior is finished with three coats of gloss polyurethane, the interior is unfinished. It is frame and panel construction assembled with biscuits and pocket screws.
