During a recent trip I met a small furniture manufacturer who uses a spray-on post cat laquer. The finish was one of the best I have seen.
Unfortunetly, the owner was very vague as to his source. He did say it was a N.C. Chemical company that produces products for the furniture industry. The post cat laquer is available in many forms (he said a hundred!) from high gloss to a beautiful satin which I am interested in. The only other info I could gleen from him was it was called “Tuff-something” and the company also sells sealers and what sounded like a water based analine dye stain which he uses quickly on-off to darken voids etc.
Any help or other sources would be greatly appreciated.

Dean,
No idea what the "mystery" finish is. There are a number of good quality finish manufacturers out there to choose from.
In solvent based lacquers (pre & post-cat), I like the finishes from Chemcraft (http://www.chemcraft.com/) a lot. In waterborne, I like the finishes from Target Coatings (http://www.targetcoatings.com).
