I am starting to shop around for hardwood flooring to replace the nasty old carpeting in part of our new home. Anyone in the SC, western NC, GA, or eastern Tennessee areas know a good place to get a great price? I’ve looked on-line at lumber liquidators and similar sites and may go that route if I can’t beat it.
Looking for a nice grade pre-finished natural maple if I can find it cheap. Plan to install it myself in the next few months.

SCMedLion, I found an excellent product, at Home Depot, YES Home Depot. Versastrip. I believe it is a European product. It's an engineered floor with plenty of high quality veneer as the top layer. It could take 2-3 refinishings, if necessary over the years, it's that thick. I used the natural maple. It's beautiful. Get their highest quality urethane underlayment - it's the green product. The flooring is just under $4/sq ft and the underlayment is a little less than $1 sq ft. My floating installation felt like rock solid, nailed-down solid floring. Rich

I know the engineered stuff is supposed to be as good, but call me old-fashioned for wanting to use solid flooring.
Besides, I have seen solid flooring foor less than $4 per square foot at the aforementioned internet sites.
Thanks anyway.
It seems that you are looking for a light colored wood, have you considered a pine floor? The attached photo shows the floor that we are putting in our new house. I paid about $1.25 per sqr. ft. for the material and of course my own labor for the install and 4 coats of waterlox varnish.

I would consider a pine floor, but I do like the relatively knot-free appearance of select grade maple, as well as minimal color variation if I can get it.
I think I may have seen your pic in another thread. If I recall right you used regular boards you had selected and just nailed them down straight, no tongue and groove stuff. Or have I confused you with someone else? At any rate you did produce a great-looking floor. Hope mine comes off as well.
I do indeed hope to install a light wood. I've even considered some of the new bamboo products, but I'm not comfortable that I know enough about them.
