I need some help. I’m building a bar for my family room, and want to make the frame and panels, cabinet doors, etc. out of hemlock. The reason is that the interior doors in the house are hemlock and I’d like to match them. I can’t find anyone locally who sells hemlock. I’ve had fir suggested as a close substitute, but at $7/board foot I’m not so sure I want to spend so much on a substitute.
Any suggestions? Any other look-alike substitutes?

Give Johnson logging in Cannon falls Minnesota a call, I think about 40 cents a bd.ft. rough and green at the mill.. (unless you want FAS and a particular size, price will adjust from there)..
I just called Johnson Logging. No dice, and no hemlock, the fellow on the phone said he'd never cut board of hemlock, and had no idea where I could get some. Thanks for the suggestion in any event.

Is Hemlock a relatively common species in your neck of the woods. If so, and Frenchy's suggestion doesn't work, you might want to contact the local sawyers in your area. You can go to woodweb.com to find a list. If so, they'll probably have all you need.

Frenchy, and Jeff:
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll track down Johnson and call today. I don't think hemlock is common locally, my impression is that it is an East Coast and West Coast species, not found here in MN.
