Looking for imported hardwoods in Western PA or MD
I’m looking for a source of imported hardwoods in Western PA, Western MD, or East-central OH. Ideally, I’d like it to be within about two hours of Morgantown, WV, so by the interstate system about 125 – 150 miles. Ironically, West Penn Hardwoods is in NY, so that’s out. I live within two hours of Woodcraft’s main facility, but they don’t have the best prices, and don’t always have a good selection of sizes in many of the species. I see a lot of posts on relatively the same topic – any suggestions out there?

Try Keim lumber in Charm OH
They do have a WWW
You may want to check out West Penn again. It is in Western NY. I don't know how far it is from Morgantown, but it is only about 5-6 hours from columbus, so I would guess it should be doable. A little further is Hearnes Hardwood in SE PA.

Between the two, you should be able to find any exotic or domestic wood you could ever want.

Thanks for the replies guys, but both are too far for me. Maybe I'm being too picky, but MapQuest says Charm, OH is about 3 hours from me, and there doesn't seem to be any easy way to get there (translate to mean narrow two-lane roads at some point). West Penn is in Olean, NY and is almost 300 miles away, so they're both out of the question. I may be out of luck!
There are quite a few locations in Eastern PA, but none of them are less than 3.5 hours from me. I'm a pretty fast driver, but if possible, I'd prefer to find someplace that doesn't make an entire day of the trip there and back. Woodcraft in Parkersburg, WV is about 110 miles, and I can make it in about 90 - 95 minutes. As I said n the original message, their prices aren't the best, but I may have to compromise. 150 miles takes me about 2 hours and that's about my cutoff point.
Thaks anyway.
Try contacting the Hardwood Emporium located in Elizabeth PA, just off of Rt. 51, which is off of I-70.
Good source in Elizabeth. I'm on 51, a little south of there, occasionally. Some of their prices are a bit high, but I'll check them out anyway. It'a worth a try ...
Thanks
You mention Morgantown, Where do you live? Maybe we could get together sometime. There is a WoodCraft near Pittsburg. I think maybe near the airport. I've been meaning to go there sometime but it seems we are always in a hurry.
Sorry say but the Woodcraft store by the airport didn't make it. There's always Rockler in the South Hills.. You can also try Mars Lumber North of PGH.
I live just south of Morgantown, WV. It takes me about 90 minutes to get to the airport in PGH if that's any indication.
BTW, I just checked the prices of the Hardwood Emporium location in Elizabeth against the Woodcraft store in Parkersburg. WOW. Quite a difference in prices.
As a quick comparison ...
Burmese Blackwood
Woodcraft - 2 x 2 x 12 - $9.99
HE - Small lot (species unknown) - $100 BF.
Cocobolo
Woodcraft - 2 x 2 x 12 $10.99
HE - 2 small boards - app $25 BF.
Zebrawood
Woodcraft - 2 x 2 x 24 - $17.99
HE - 2 - 8/4 boards - app $27 BF.
Woodcraft's prices don't seem so bad now.
If you're still interested in getting together, shoot me an e-mail message ([email protected]), maybe we can organize a trip to West Penn (Olean, NY).
