Hi Gary, I am a professional woodworker with a blog listed in the ‘community’ section … http://dorsetcustomfurniture.blogspot.com/ . I am new to these forums. I am looking for information on an expanding table mechanism I saw once on an antique game table. The table was 18 x 36 closed but you could pull on the pair of back legs and the base would expand into a square to support the flipped over leaf with a kind of accordion mechanism. I can’t find anything in the back issues with a search and wodered if you might know where I could go for information. Thanks…dan

Hi Dan,
Well I'd go to the best book on furniture making ever written: Ernest Joyce' The Encyclopedia of Furniture Making. I seem to remember some kind of card table device. But check there first and let me know. I may have some other options, but I'll have to go look up titles. Best, Gary
Hi Gary ... I've got that book and I'll take a look, but I don;'t think I've seen it in there. I've been through that book a million times as well as the Feirrer book on cabinetmakeing and millwork. I don't think either of em have it .... Thanks anyway ...We'll figure it out I guess ...dan
Ernest Joyce, The Encyclopedia of Furniture Making, page 382, Concertina-action double top table. Looks just like what you're describing. Cool table. Send a photo when you make it. Gary
You are GOOOOOOOOD! I actually was sooooo close yesterday. I read the entry on the page before it about the leaves that flip up out of the table .... I've had customers ask me to do that one too. Accordion, concertina, whatever .... that's the right function. The part I was missing mentally was the sliding panel to lock it open. Thanks again and I'll be putting this table on my blog as it gets underway .... I'll let you know when that happens ... Thanks again ...dan
