Looking for plans for library ladder
Hi folks:
I just finished building bookshelves/cabinetry for a corner of my synagogue’s library. I built the bookshelves up to the top of the 9′ ceiling, because what I saw when building 7′ shelves in the rest of the libary was that people just stuffed crap on top.
So obviously I need something besides an aluminum stepladder to enable people to retrieve books from the top shelf. Any ideas for something attractive, safe, and not too bulky? A rail system would be overkill for this small corner.
I thought I attached pictures but they don’t appear here as attachments. I guess I need advice on how to do that too.
Thanks in advance.

decisions, decisions
Part of your decision, I think, depends on how much floor space you want to consume. The usual top-rail library ladder won't work in a corner - you'd need one for each side of the corner. So, you are either looking at a folding step stool with a safety rail, or a fixed ladder on casters that retract when a person steps on the ladder - something like the ladder platforms used by stock clerks in the "big-box" stores. The former folds up and out of the way, the latter consumes a large area on the floor.

Either of these designs could be adapted to be made of wood.
