Hi there. Seeing as how this is probably the best collection of woodworkers online, I’m guessing this should be the place to get my question answered. I’ve been woodworking for about 3 years now, but have limited tools (unisaw, router, jigsaw, basic things like that in my sisters one car garage). I live in Huntington Beach, CA and would like to find a woodworking club, or really any place where I could pay to use the tools. Schools, clubs, etc. I absolutely love woodworking, and am progressing to the point where my tools aren’t enough. I’d like to try new designs and ideas, but am limited. So the question is: Does anybody know of a club in LA or orange county where they rent out time in a workshop? Any answers would be extremely helpful, even if they are leads. I’m anxious to find something. Also, do furniture makers still need apprentices in the US. I’ve searched the archives, and it seems they are dying out. This is something else I’d like to look into.
P.S. I’ve been in several woodworking classes (Fullerton and Orange coast College), but would prefer a club to use anytime.
Well, thanks for any feedback. Love the magazine. Love the website. Love woodworking.

Hey Len, just what I was looking for. I'll definitely look into the Santa Ana club, and check out the others also. I really appreciate it. Now,I just have to quit my job in order to spend more time in the shop.
Thanks, Jon
Jon,
Looks like we're almost neighbors. I'm in FV on the HB border near Brookhurst and Garfield. Feel free to email me if you need something in a pinch. There used to be a Woodworker's Club franchise in Santa Ana. They had a silent auction for some of the equipment when they went out of business, but held out some of the better stuff for a co-op shop the owner was planning to start-up. I can't help but wonder if that's this same shop.

Ron,
Where in Fullerton? I live 2 blocks east of Harbor and 1 block north of Chapman. Seems there are quite a few of us OC woodworkers here! I used to belong to a woodworking "club" up in Pasadena called "The Woodworkers Place" until it went out of business. Saved my dues money and collected pennies until I had enough for a decent shop full of equipment.

I drive right by you on my way to the train station. We should get a beer at the Olde Ship sometime. I take it that you also live in a bungalow built in the 1920s. I just finished redoing our master bath. Time to get back to furniture projects.
Dr. BillThey would not call it REsearch if you only had to do it once, that would be just search!

Been there, done that. I gave directions to someone coming from the deepest darkest areas of south OC one time and told him to exit on Chapman, Well he ended up in Garden Grove instead of Fullerton and REALLY confused...oops!

Ron, I ended up going at the last minute. I got some BS blades and saved my Dad $150 on a Jet lathe he has been looking at. Other than that, not much caught my eye with the exception of a dodad that replaces the base on your jigsaw so you can use it for cope cuts on moulding. Was transfixed for about 5 min then looked for the price...$28 for a piece of stamped metal! That got my feet moving...

I picked up some collins clamps theyre real good for miters especially for door caseings and crown moulding ect, plus some woodline ply bits. I really like they re bits. I always enjoy watching cole from inline demo the dubby I have one and had it for years but I enjoy watching what he can do with it.
