I read today that paduak dust is very bad to breathe, and the wood turns brown after some time, especially in sunlight. That’s bad news since I’ve been working with it – and incorporating into customer projects – for a year now. However, I love the color and grain of paduak. So here’s my question: what wood is similar in color and texture to paduak, yet not toxic and won’t brown over time?

None?

I've read that some people use bloodwood. I haven't tried any, but I used padauk in the past and was disappointed that it lost it's color. One comment I saw was that the best use for padauk was in the wood stove.
all woods will eventually go brown. if you are having problems with dust; use a better extraction system

It is bad to breathe ANY wood dust - more so if it's treated. I cannot breathe at all if pine is being cut in my garage or if there is a pine/fir in a house. I don't use pine and always use good dust extraction. If the color appeals to you then you can use a lighter wood and dye it...
Narra from the Phillippens also known as High land teak. One problem it's the national tree and can no longer be exported. Paduak is a sub for this wood. Clay at Eisenbrands in Torrance has some boards. Its not cheep. http://www.eisenbrandhardwoods.com
Nice site - even just to look at all the wood photos.
