I am building a sofaback table. I planned to give it an oval stone top (or more accurately, a manmade material something like Corian or Zodiaq etc.). At Lowes I was told, however, that all the countertop material like I wanted must be bought in large quantities – I think he said 18 linear feet.
Anybody know where I can buy a reasonably priced material in a small quantity to sit atop my wood furniture? The finished size will be an oval about 26″ x 13″.
Thank you.

The price for a 13" by 26" piece of half inch Corian is $73.22 or less, depending on color and pattern.
The store should have sent you here:

There is a FREE information package on working with Corian in the home workshop, including a booklet from duPont is available from this site.
I hope this helps,

Try going to a company that installs kitchen counters. They routinely keep the range and sink cutouts from their installations for people to use. I bought a couple of them for use as a router-table top and work station for a couple bucks each. Some places give them away. I am guessing they are big enough for your purpose. The place I went to had a pile of cutouts, from about 24x30 to 30x36 (my guesses) whatever standard ranges/sinks are. They had solid surface as well as corian type cutouts - maybe not the color and pattern you like, but worth checking into.
