Looking repair parts for Columbian Vice
Can anyone point me to a source for a repair part for and old
Columbian Vice? The vice is an old 10″ x 4″ with quick release.
It has a replaceable bronze “toothed piece” that ingages the
Screw. The bronze piece is worn out ….any help would be appreciated.

Bill, That piece is called the nut. Not sure if Columbia is still in existence.
Take the nut to a small machine shop (At lunchtime) I'm sure one of the 'Hands' will duplicate it for small price.
Note: most of these guys do work at home "On the side' Pay him well and keep his phone number.Stein.

I use to own a Columbian vise (I'm pretty sure is was a Columbian). They called it their 8" vice. This was for a metal machine shop. I believe we spent $1300 for it and it weighed in at something like 167 lbs. We mounted it on its own pedestal of 12" schedule 40 carbon steel pipe with 1/2" plate steel on the top and bottom. Bolted to the floor. My god, this thing was glorious. I have never used any other non-powered tool in my life that was more magnificent. I imagine it to be like living in the Rockies and seeing Mt Everest for the first time. That kind of glorious. Heck, the lead screw was like 2 inches in diameter. Had the 6" also mounted to a bench. Had to bolt the bench to the floor also cause the 6" vice weighed the one corner down so much.
Sadly had to part with it. But as soon as I have the space and the extra dough, I will own another one of those 8 inchers. And to tell the truth, the vice was so........ I simply can't bring myself to buy any other vise. It literally wrecked me for other vices. So I don't even own a vice now.
