Way cool! Do you have suggestions for ideal age and projects for young children to start out with?
Wish I had a book full, LOL. We built three paddlewheel boats. He helped me mark them and watched while I cut them, but I figured the drillpress would be quite safe for him to use.
I do have a number of books from our good friends, Lee Valley. There's a multi-book collection entitled "A bazzillion Things a Boy Can Do", or something like that. There's tons of stuff in there that a boy CAN'T do, but there are some interesting projects. I have a couple of others that also came from LV. It seems way too many "kids'" project books are really things for "us" to build for kids. But I'll tell you what, get a collection of off-cuts, some nails and a hammer (sized appropriately and stand back, LOL)
He's a great kid, and we're pretty hopeful. The guy was walking before he was 8 months, and his first pair of shoes was something like a size 13 EE (ok, so I'm exagerating a little bit). Our first "temp" graduated from highschool this year, and is off to college in a pre-law program. The number of foster kids who go to college is less than 10%, perhaps <5, I forget, so we're really excited.
Good thoughts ... thanks. And hats off to you for giving your kids what sounds like a wonderful home and life experience.

Outstanding!! My son is now 15, and I haven't been able to get him back in the woodshop for about 3 years. I figure it's a bad idea to push him, but he used to love building small stuff with me. I'd love it if he would join in again. Cherish it.

Jeff .... I understand!I have worked with Computers since they were just 4 bits..NONE of my Children wanted ANYTHING to do with it..My middle Daughter is a School Teacher.. She always tells me..
