I need to make a louvered door for a computer that is set into a cupboard. Has anyone seen an article that gives some directions for making one? I’d appreciate the help.

donshop,
Norm made either fixed louvered doors or shutters many years ago with a jig and router on TOH. I remember him taking the two stiles, back to back and laying a template over the edge which had a series of 'V' cuts...and of course the router with a colar. He also used this technique for making the louvered panels under the weathervane on the house GBH (TV station)bought and auctioned off several years ago. Of course he never really explains how he made the template....I would suspect a mortice machine for the template.
He made the template on an episode of NYW. You can buy the plans and the episode through his website

BrentS,
Yes, I believe the cupola is in a project format but not the louvered shutters/doors. He visited a factory up here in MA that was still using water power to run the shop (I think) and they made shutters
BG,
Norm did a 2 part episode on shop jigs on New Yankee Workshop. In it he made among other things a jig for making louvred doors. My link above should go to the episode info.

I had a similar request from a long time client & after discussing her request for a louvre she said she had seen them at the local second-hand yard. She bought one for about $10 & I modified it to suit the application. The difficult bit would have been machining the slots but as all the slots are there on the stiles it wasn't an issue. I would suggest you look for a door with loose slats rather than one where they are glued in.
