Does anyone know of an air compressor that is especially quiet, like low decibels. I know the screw types can get down to the mid 50s decibels. I don’t want to spend that kind of money and don’t need it that quiet. I’m looking for 60 gallon compressor that has around 11 or 12 cfm at something like 90 or 100 psi. Something in that range that is in the low 70s decibels. Thanks, Bill Lindau

Any good oil lubed, cast iron compressor will be pretty quiet. Al lot quiter than a Table saw or most drills. If you wnat quieter the smart thing is to build walls aroung the compresser to deaden the sound. There have been a few discussions on doing this.

Quincy is one brand of relatively quiet compressors but they are more expensive than compressors typically found at the borgs. Oil lubed, low RPM motor, small drive pulley, large driven pulley are usually signs of a quiet compressor.
Have a look at the Hydrovane - it uses rotary vane technology in which there is only one major moving part. No belts, valves, pistons pulleys, rings etc. A British thing, much loved by dentists, car paint shops, woodworms, and the world. I have had one since 1987- no oil leaks, contamination or trouble of any sort-it just hums away. The sound of the three horse motor is the main noise. It cost a bit more , but when I see the piston type I just laugh.Surely these are available in the States.
Sorry to comment so far off the subject. But I just peeked at your profile to see where you were from. I noticed the picture, and I have seed the picture of Forestgirl. She's a lot better looking.
Have to agree there, but don't see what that has to do with woodworking. Are you sure you know you are on a woodworking site and not a date babes for their looks site?

Yes, I admit it was off the subject. but did you notice one picture is of a woman, the other is of a cat. I couldn't resist.
Yes I did notice, but again I ask are you here for #### cats or woodworking?

Alright Taunton I understand some censorship in the name of good taste and decorum, but filtering out #### cats?

Quincy makes the quietest compressor I have used. You will know when it is running, but you won't be startled when it kicks in.Mine is about 20 yeras old, still running like it was new.

Adding a muffler helps a lot.
