I’ve got a 35 year old Powermatic 100 planer. Yesterday, I had it apart to re-set the infeed and outfeed rollers which had gotten out of adjustment. While I have it apart I want to lubricate it. Hate to admit the last time I did so but it certainly wasn’t at the daily, weekly, and monthly intervals suggested in the manual. Anyway, they recommend SAE 10 for several moving parts. I’ve seen SAE 20. Is SAE 10 still available or is there a modern equivalent that might work better? For the grease nipples, they recommend “Fiske Lubriplate” (?) or No. 1 grease (light weight type). Last time I did it I purchased an inexpensive grease gun with cartrige. Grease was coming out the handle and all around the grease nipple. Not sure how much grease was getting to where it is needed. Is there a better way to do this?

You might check at any auto store to see what the SAE is for rear-end transmission oil. I see no reason why that couldn't be used.
On the grease zerts - I would unscrew one of the zerts and take it to the auto store and get replacements. If you still cannot get them to take grease, then dis-assembly and cleaning is in order. The old grease has hardened and not allowing new to take it's place. If the old grease has hardened, then it's not doing the intended job.
*Mike,Thanks for the feedback on my question. I went to the hardware store and they tell me that 3 in 1 oil is SAE 10 as well as another brand which comes in a squeeze bottle. I tried it and it seems to work. I'm not sure if the grease nipples (zerts) are removeable. I'll check on that the next time I have the planer apart. I went ahead and re-greased the nipples as I had done before. I think that some of it may be getting to where it is needed since I see traces of it around the ends of the rollers. Thanks again.
