Lubrication for Wooden Bench Screw?

I recently acquired an antique workbench that has wooden bench screws. The bench is made of beech. The tail vise was falling apart and I have now repaired it. My question is: Shouldn’t I lubricate the wooden bench screws with wax or oil or something. They are in good shape and I don’t want them to wear out prematurely because of lack of lubrication. Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't, unless you see wood dust falling out. If you lubricate it and then find out it won't stay tight, you'd have a heck of a time cleaning the lube off. If it's so rough you have a hard time getting it tight, you might try a little dab of wax.

If I may add a little suggestion.
wax is a very good idea, but use floor wax (like johnsons ) wipe on and let dry, then wipe and buff. some other waxes are to hard or to soft to use for luberaction.
dont forget to use a brush to clean off any build up of dust and debree.
DONT USE OIL! thay pick up and build up wood dust.
a good wood screw if taken care of should last a long time.Just treat it like a good woman. (Yes it dose take a bit of work, to keep it working. But its Well worth it. :-) . )
