For milling lumber I built four rolling spreaders with four wheels each (see pic). As I mill stock I stack from one pair of the rollers to the second pair. I find I waste a lot of time dragging lumber around and am thinking of building a rolling cart along the lines of what is shown in the 3d rendering. I want to hold between 1000 and 2000lb of lumber at a time. Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Brad,
My shop has a variety of solutions, because there isn't one that's best for all situations. We have:
-several heavy-duty simple carts, about 2'x3' and 3' high. These are great if the quantity of boards is not too large.
-several low dollies like you have. We use these mainly for moving cabinets around.
-a scissors-action pallet truck, which lifts to about 3' high. This is great for moving a stack of lumber and then raising it to a comfortable height to feed into the next machine.
I see what you're getting at with your design, but I suspect that you may find it limited in usefulness. Keep it as simple as possible. The more you engineer a sophisticated design, the more it will be limited in use.

Thanks for the reply. I have mixed feelings about building that cart. I agree with keeping it simple. I think i will go back to the drawing board.

brad,
I don't have any specific suggestions but years ago I discovered that railroads had incorporated into their carts some nice features. For instance, solid platforms about 2x3, 2x4, etc. with wheels midway on each side with 360 wheels at the head and toe. Also, the platforms could accommodate 2x4" in each corner, so you could quickly assemble what ever you needed off of the platform.
