I am currently in a new house, designing and building another wood shop. The basement and the garage are on grade. The basement will be heated but the garage is not. The shop will be in the basement. In order to increase the usable square footage of my shop, I was considering putting the shop material (rough sawn lumber and plywood) in the unheated garage. In the past I kept these materials in heated space. If I store these materials in the garage will I have increased problems with warping? Is there anything else I should be considering?

Rich,
The main thing to consider is to have it properly stickered with good air circulation. Relative humidity is what affects moisture content more than tempurature. Just make sure that you plan ahead and move stock into your shop to let it acclimate before starting a project.

Dano,
Do you keep your inventory on stickers once it's dried?
I don't, once it reaches 6% moisture it comes off the stickers and I flat stack it. Am I missing something trying to store 6 quarts in a pint jar?
Frenchy,
Yes, I do. Dunno if you're missing anything.....But then, I don't have that much inventory; I run a furniture and cabinet shop, not a lumber yard...;-)
