Hi all,
I’ve moved to Augusta, Georgia from Alexandria, Virginia and I’m looking to find a good source for wood. I was so spoiled in Virginia having good access to places like Colonial Hardwoods that I’m not sure I’ll have it that good again. BUT, does anybody want to chime in with the name of their favorite wood sources in the Eastern Georgia or Western South Carolina areas? It would be much appreciated. Thanks…
Erich

Wall lumber in Mayodan N.C. might be a source though I'm not sure how far that is from Augusta.
Ron
Do you live in or near Mayodan, Ron? If so, do you know Steve Wall? I do believe I sold him quite a few parts for his muscle car about 3 weeks or so ago. I think his name was Wall and he mentioned he dealt in hard-wood lumber. I keep forgetting to search our computer for Wall in N.C., which it will pull all Wall's up. I think he had either an early Chevelle or Camaro he was restoring.
If it's the same one, maybe a % discount deal can be struck for trading what we're both after. :>)

I don't live in N.C. Sarge ,in fact I live about 60 miles south of Atlanta. Steve can put lumber in my driveway within 2 days of my order by way of Wilson Trucking and for that reason I've bought a good bit of lumber from him over the years. I wonder what kind of car he's restoring. If you talk to him again see if we can get a picture of the car.Ron
Hey Ron. Just getting ready to call it quits for the night. I'm up in L'ville in Gwinnett Co. I have bought from Suwanee Lumber since the early 70's when I got started. They are great as they let you just go down to the racks and hand-pick your poison. You can mill around down there the entire day if you wish. Prices are not bad, either.
But.. I saw the web-site for Wall someone posted a week or so ago (maybe you?) and checked it out. He's definitely got good prices from what I saw. I can do a search tomorrow on our in-house computers for NCWall and see if Mayohan turns up. I think it's him as I had never heard of the town he lived in (pretty sure it was Mayohan) and ask where it was. We got in conversation and it came out he was in the hard-wood lumber business. Could be co-incidence, but I'm almost convinced at this point. Let you know what I find out.
Regards from up the road in L'ville...

I just called work (I don't go in till 1 PM) and had someone check it in customer display. It was not Steve Wall that I spoke to several weeks ago. :<) The good news is that Steve has an account under Wall Lumber, but made his last purchase in May of 03'. He had a 69' Charger (black-sheep of the Mopar B body family) at that time. :>)
May have to give him a call just to make sure he doesn't need anything. Those rubber weather-strips on his car are probably sitting in the hot summer sun dry-rotting now! ha.. ha...

Not sure about eastern Georgia Erich, but if you happen into the Atlanta area you should post and we'll put you on their door-steps. I would google for hard-wood sources and I do believe there is a site that will locate by zip code.

You can try Suwanee Lumber in Suwanee, GA (North of Atlanta). Their web site is: http://www.suwaneelumber.com. They keep Cherry, Mahogany, Walnut, Ash, Oak, Maple, Poplar, Pine, and many others in sizes (sold rough in quarters) from thin veneers up through 16/4 x 12" x 20' (but you'll need a real big truck for that beam!). They also do hardwood plywoods and sheet goods such as Lauon.
Friendly folks, too. Go visit at lunch time and sit and chat. My last visit, I got two free Spam and cheese sandwiches on white bread made in a hot sandwich press and loaded with Miracle Whip ... from the guys down in the warehouse office! Mmmmmmmmmmm. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it! It's almost as good as fried balogna! (I do recommend a soda to wash it down with though.)

Jim
Hi Everybody,Thanks for the tips, I'll look into them. My wife will be happy to take a trip to Atlanta if that's what it takes, she likes the shopping! Maybe I will too! Take care all...Erich
Morning Erich...
The bad news is that the Mall of Georgia is about 9 miles or so away from the good folks at Suwanee. Both are just off I-85 north toward Greenville, S.C. Only Suwanee offers Spam sandwiches.
Send a man to Suwanee L to purchase $200 worth of hard-wood, he will be finished in an hour at the cost of $200. Send a woman to the mall to purchase a pair of pants at the GAP for $33, it takes about 6 hours 30 minutes at the cost of around $800. ha.. ha...
