M. Pekovich’s latest wall cabinet in FW # 290
The plan for the cabinet shows a door at 9/16″ thick; however, the parts to be inserted amount to close to ¾”. The front molding and the back retainers are ¼”; the mirror is ⅛”; and the front molding is set back a bit (say 1/16″).
This is ¼” + ¼” + ⅛”+ 1/16″ = 11/16″. Since the door is 9/16″, does this mean that Mike’s version has the retainer strips protruding out of the back of the door?
I built this cabinet, allowing for slightly smaller dimensions to accommodate a mirror I had on hand; the result is quite pleasing and I’m grateful for the plan. But instead of a ¼” molding added to the front, I routed a rabbet in the back of the glued-up door deep enough to accommodate the mirror and the ¼” retaining strip, squaring up the corners. Thus the retainers are flush with the back of the door.
