Wife bought a plane at an online auction for me. Made of wood, about 3 inches wide and thick and 16 inches long. Had Mackay-Burley-Heys Glasgow stamped on one end. I cant find much on the internet about them and a search on this site came up empty. Anyone know anything about them, are they rare and/or collectable? Curious because more are coming up for auction this weekend. Thanks

Mackay-Burley-Heys
A Google search turned up a couple of listings from antique tool sellers that called them "rare". Whether they are rare is another question, of course. Sort of like "mint" on eBay.
According to the 3rd edition of Goodman (British Planemakers from 1700), Mackay, Burley & Heys operated at 76 London Rd. & 185 Preston Rd. from 1875 to 1880 then at 9 Watson Street off Gallowgate from 1881 to 1890. Goodman lists them as commonly found.
Thanks guys.
