I’ve spent the last 2.5 months making a stock & forend from scratch for my Mossberg 500 shotgun. I’m so excited to show you all the work I’ve done!
I started from a block of curly Bastogne walnut and carved it down with a rasp. Did the checkering with hand checkering tools.
I have a video detailing the process, if you’re curious! Please be kind, I’m a sensitive person.

Oh! That's nice. I haven't watched the video (not exactly a gun enthusiast). What finish did you use?
Thank you! I did several washcoats of amber shellac made from flake and grain alcohol, followed by lots and lots of coats of birchwood Casey tru oil. I sanded 400 grit between coats of the tru oil and finished by sanding 3000 grit and waxing it :)
Very nice!
Thank you!
Excellent work! I also loved the video. Very well done. I recently put a link to my first YouTube video in this forum and think it would be fun if others did the same.
Thanks so much! I just checked out your YouTube video of the growth chart, that’s an interesting piece, never seen something quite like that before! YouTube definitely brings the projects to life. I’m a visual learner, and YouTube is how I’ve learned a good 75% of my woodworking skills!
Fantastic. Thanks for sharing. What is the name of the YouTube channel? As a woodworker, I've been thinking of doing the same. Only other video I recall on this sort of work was Andy Rawles for a Rem 870.
Thank you so much! My channel is called “Kelley Makes” (as in Kelley makes things) and the video is the only one on my channel so far. I’ve seen a couple of stock making videos and they all have a unique take on it. Overall the woodworking videos I love the best are the very detailed ones that go step by step.
Was an enjoyable video to watch. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful work!
Thank you so much!
