Hello everybody.
I just purchased the Craftsman Radial Arm Saw.
After reading a lot about Craftsman and thinking that the tools were American made I was very mad to find the Made In Taiwan stamp all over it. I dont mind buying from out of country if I cant find what I want Made USA. I dont even mind paying more for something if it is Made USA but to be lied to by SEARS so they can sell off shore merchandise under the Made in the USA name really gets me hot. I will never spend any money at SEARS again. All they had to do is say that the saw was made in Taiwan and I would respect that. But to clearly state as one of the reasons to buy Craftsman is because it is Made In the USA is a lie.
Stand for something or fall for anything!

I was in Marketing and we hardly ever did that.. Just every day!
Dont be upset over that. It is a big business, No matter what you purchased now will have some parts made somewhere else. That is the way of the future. Now days, when you call a company, ie phone company, electrical for help, you are talking to someone in China or India.
I hope nobody here thinks American cars are even close to 100% made in America. They haven't been for years. "The large print giveth and the small print taketh away."
"I cut this piece four times and it's still too short."
It wasnt the fact that it was made in Taiwan it was the fact that on the Craftsman site they make a big deal about being American made. I dont have a problem with off shore brands. I am not naive enough to think that a lot of what we get has off shore parts in it. I just dont like big companys playing me with MADE IN AMERICA lies.JIM
Well, you do have the option of returning it, they're pretty good about that. I was in a Sears recently and some hump was there to return a cheap Sears battery powered drill after clearly using it a lot. It was at least a year old and was pretty dinged up. They took it back and gave him a store credit.

Sears advertises that may of the Craftsman hand tools are made in the US, which is true. Nowhere on the website does it claim that the power tools are made in the US.
Anyway, if you're willing to pay more for a US made tool, check out the machines from the Original Saw Company (http://www.originalsaw.com/). Prices start around $3,000.
You never mentioned anything about how it performed or what project you built using it. If it does what you want it to do, that's really all that's important. I doubt that your great grandaughter will ever say, "Mom, I know this clock has been in the family since 2005, but I don't want anything to do with it because the saw it was made with was not made in the USA!" I own several Craftsman tools as well as several other major brand names and love working with them all!!!! One other question, "are you going to stop buying "Crown" chisels because they use "Sheffield" steel or maybe we should all through out our "Pfeil" chisels and carving tools because their "SWISS MADE". Go build a family member a gift in your shop. it will get you mind off your "little"problems and bring joy to someone's life.

Crafstman used to mean "Made in USA", but those days are mostly gone. Delta used to mean "Made in USA" and General used to mean "Made in Canada", but today many of their tools as well are imported. I agree that this is sad, but in defense of Sears I might point out that, at least in their printed catalog, the tools which are not made in USA do state "Imported" in the item description. I just checked the current Sears tool catalog, and "Imported" is included in the description for the radial arm saw.
My favorite chips, Frito Lay, are now even made in Mexico. Hate that. My Dell laptop I am typing this on is made in Taiwan. It's a global market.
