I am building a chest of drawers that will have mahogany crotch veneer on the drawer fronts. The substrate of the drawer fronts will be mahogany. My question is type of glue to use. Concerned about movement of the solid wood under the veneer. Would a two part urea resin be best to give a rigid glueline, or a hide or yellow glue to allow a little bit of creep for seasonal movement. The largest drawer front will be about 7″ wide. I made some small drawers for a silver chest with crotch mahogany 2″ – 3″ wide and used yellow glue, have had now problems. Maybe it is time to buy a glue pot. I hope Rob Millard will share his experience with this method of construction. Thank you.

Unibond 800, from Vacuum Pressing Systems in Maine, is excellent in all respects for veneering. I have not yet tried hammer veneering, but the crotch might make it a difficult project to learn this technique on.

I'm thinking of building a piece with underwear crotch veneered drawer fronts.
No glue necessary.
