I am making the apron edge banding for the Steve Latta demi-lune card table. I have made the brick made up of holly and ebony. It is approximately 6 inches long, 2.75 inches wide, and 1.5 inches thick and all squared up. Do I cut the slices off the end (cross grain), or off the side (long grain)?

Hi Gary,
Sorry not to reply to you more quickly. I'll see if I can get the answer from an editor here.
Thanks,

Hello, I emailed Steve Latta, here's how he responded:
Having given it some thought, it does sort of make sense. If he has done what I think he has done, he should cut the brick crossgrain in 3/16 segments and lay the pieces edge to edge – black against white until he has about 24” in length. He should then apply the veneers that hold the whole assembly together in a banding press.
Make sense? Thanks, Gina
