Last year I ordered some 35mm engraved metal disks from Vidi at Makers Marks, http://www.makers-marks.co.uk. The disks turned out well and I was generally happy with the whole process. Vidi, the proprietor, made too many disks and admitted that it was his mistake but I agreed to buy them anyway.
This spring I ordered some more disks. After some back and forth to sort out the details I sent them a check. It was cashed on May 11 but I have not heard anything from them since. I have tried calling and e-mailing but have not gotten any response. I like the first set of markers and would gladly take the second set, that I have already paid for, or a refund. Has anyone else had any luck getting in touch with them?

Chris,
That doesn't look good.
I have had dealings with this Vidi fellow and eventually managed to get a full refund on money paid to him in advance. This was with the help of David Trusty (Lataxe). It seems that he takes on work which he cannot in fact do. This incident happened not long after my dealings with that thief Wiktor Kuc, and it was quite depressing-but at least I got my money back.
I still have not found anyone capable of doing what I need in the way of manufacturer decals for my planes and the present situation is but a compromise.
If you need more details I kept all correspondence with Vidi. Come to think of it- there were lengthy periods when he was "unreachable" and I arrived at the conclusion that he might have been sick in some way.
Philip,
Thanks for relating your experience with Vidi. I will keep trying to get in touch with him via e-mail since the phone number listed on the web site seems to be disconnected. As I said, I did get the first batch and was happy with them. The edges are a little uneven but for the price I think they are very nice. Your planes probably deserve something a little closer to perfect. (BTW, I am still trying to figure out how to justify to myself buying one of your beauties.)

That's an understatement. Philip can provide you with the details but suffice to say he made off with an entire payment (from me) that was to be sent to Philip for a plane. Thief is way too nice a word for the guy.

Philip, I am not sure if this would work for your plane application, but I ran across this firm that makes decal stock that can be printed with a laser or ink jet printer. It might be worth looking in to. Click here. This page is for laser stock, but the header of the page has a link to take you to ink jet stock also. I have thought to try some of this to sign my work, just haven't got around to it yet.

Just wanted to finish the story, as best I could, to be fair to all. The markers I ordered from VIDI at Makers Marks showed up in the mail last week, approximately two months after the check was cashed and with no explanation as to the delay. I never got a response to any of the 5 or so e-mails I sent very politely asking for an update on the order. The markers look fine, similar in quality to the larger version. Not perfect but pretty good given the price paid. But I have to say I will not be ordering from them again due to the poor customer service. Too bad because they are a neat idea.

Yes, that is about the measure of it. There is something wrong there, and I certainly got that impression when I had to speak to him directly on the phone.I see there are adverts for the product in a British woodworking magazine, but wonder what he does with any orders arising from the adverts.I think I was lucky to get my money back.Philip Marcou
Sorry, being an old souther boy, I misread your post and was going to provide this link.
