I built a rather large kitchen table, 84″X42″X1 1/2″. As luck would have it, our new house has a smaller eating area and the table is too long. I am looking for ideas to make it shorter. It has 6″ breadboard edges on each end and a 4″ wide center slat piece.
I thought of either cutting right at the breadboard edges, removing some of the table from each end and then recreating the breadboard edges. Of course I would have to remake the aprons. The other idea I had was to cut out the center and make a leaf out it.
Your thoughts?

Why not cut the 2 ends at 12-18 inches and do a drop leaf?
I have to check to see if the drop leaf portion would hang down too low to be useful. It may cut off the ability to sit at the end. Thanks for the thought.

depending on the size of the legs/strechers cut off an amount that is one inch shorter that the space underneith and due it with an 180 degree hinge and have it "lock" into place.
you cold also create an additional bread board and then still use the extra in this way.
