Does anybody have any opinions or experience using homestead.com to set up a web page? the trial fee is something like $5 per month but then goes up to $7 or 8. I know a few people that considered $12/month the best option. What are the various features that make one site better than another? what are other options? I’m looking for the basics here, the site will probably not be too detailed.

Matt,
I've not used this site, however if you're looking at an e-commerce setup you may want to take a raised eyebrow look at Paypal. I don't have first hand knowledge, but there are a lot
of horror stories about merchant problems with Paypal on the internet right now. These could be prompted by Paypal competitors, however it might bear investigating.

I know a little about websites. If you are looking for a basic page to display your work, try Yahoo. You can set up a basic page for around ($9.00/month). If you are looking for an eCommerce site with a shopping cart system, you should take a look at http://www.volusion.com. They have a VERY easy to use system.
Good luck.
I have had Homestead host my website for several years. http://www.woodshepherd.net I have no complaints, except the price has gone up drastically over the years. It was actually free when I started! They provide all the templates you need to get started, and will even give advise, ypu import whatever graphics andor photographs of yoru work you wish, and they will even submit your site to whatever search engines you want off their rather copious list.
Good luck Matt!

Steve, nice web site, I enjoyed visiting. Might I make a tiny suggestion? For your home page, the "web title" still shows up as "Index." If you go into the HTML, you'll see a line:
<TITLE>Index</TITLE>
If you replace the word Index with Woodshepherd then your homepage will show as Woodshpherd in the tabs (IE7), taskbar (IE6) and also when people go to add your site to their favorites/bookmarks, it will already be titled appropriately.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Forestgirl,
I will so try that. Thanks a million. I need all the help I can get in this area. And, thanks for the compliments. - Woodshepherd
You're most welcome. I should have mentioned, it's in the first several lines of your HTML, so you don't have to look too far!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Do a search for 'Microsoft Office Live' and you will find that they offer a totally free web site setup. Of course they are trying to sell upgrades and it ain't too fancy, but the price is rite and the tools they offer are workable.

I will certainly check it out, thanks.
