I’ve often thought about making one or more Scottish-style infill planes with dovetailed soles. I know that you can buy kits (such as St. James Bay Tool Co., unfortunately now out of business), but you still have to do a lot of the work yourself. Alternatively, one can also make them from scratch, including cutting (i.e., hacksawing and filing to a line) the dovetails, filing and polishing the cap, etc.
Has anyone here made one, either from a kit or from scratch? If so, did you use a kit and if so, which one? Also, what was the size of the plane you made, what were the more difficult processes, and about how long in manhours would you estimate it took to complete it? Any photos you would like to share would also be appreciated.
If anyone has ever started a project like this and put it away due to frustration or time constraints, that would be helpful to know as well.
Thanks in advance.

St. James Bay is still in business. I think they sell exclusively on eBay now. They have a ton of kits on there.
I'd make your first one from a kit. There's a lot to it, and you'll learn a lot from making one.
