I have a bottle of lemon oil furniture cleaner purchased some time ago from the States. This is unavailable here in the UK. Could anyone tell me how to make this product, or something similar to use.

Hoping someone with better info responds, but I am under the impression that most, if not all, so-called "lemon oil" products for cleaning and polishing wood, are actually plain old mineral oil, with some lemon fragrance added. I don't know if there is a detergent or solvent component. Do you have a brand name or other info to add? Is it an aerosol spray or liquid?
You are correct. Most "Lemon Oil" furniture products are mineral oil, mineral spirits and a little artificial essence of lemon. Some do have a dollop of real lemon.
Mainly they just wipe off the dust and leave a non-drying film which can do more to attract and hold dust than just using a good paste wax.Howie.........
Anyone know of a product called "Aulwood?"
I have used it for years, and I have no idea what it consists of. But it does do a good job of removing dirt, finger marks, etc. It dries quickly, and leaves behind a nice satin shine.
I have only seen it in paint stores around here.
I used Howard's Orange Oil for years when selling used furniture. A great cleaner. I have an old bottle at home. I'll see if it's possible to tell what's in it. The only thing I can find on-line is that it does not have any solvents.

Many thanks for the info. As newcomers to the web and computers we are just beginning to feel our way over the waves!! The site is proving very interesting - not just on wood polish but also other topics. Once again Thanks. I wish you well.

The real lemon oil for furniture is made from lemongrass, not lemons, the fruit. The oil can be an irritant to skin and eyes. This site has a number of wood cleaning products including a lemon oil polish.
