I’ve restored some of the old windows from a house built in about 1835 by stripping them to the bare wood, deglazing them, epoxying the defects, “renewing” the wood with terpentine, regalzing, priming etc etc. I now want to build replacements for the few windows that were beyond repair. I’m looking for a book or article on making original wood windows for this type of old New England cape house and attached barn. Can anyone point me in the correct direction or have a suggestion? Thanks.

You may want to check out "Make Your Own Handcrafted Doors & Windows" by John Birchard, Stirling Publishing Co., New York.

I believe there was a reference to this text on here saying that it was out of print and now fetching up wards of $50 a copy!!
That could be.... I bought about 2 years ago on Amazon. I built windows and doors for my Old Growth Redwood Timber Frame Building. I used this reference along with others like "The Practical Woodworker" by Bernard E. Jones, Ten Speed Press.

Thanks KillenWOOD I will look for the Birchard book. It is hard to believe that neither This Old House Magazine nor Fine Homebuilding have published on this but I have not found such an article by either of these publications. I may have missed it if they did.
Interesting about your comment on FH and FW alternatives. I have "Windows and Skylights" which is a FH publication. I did not find much help in here for building my traditional muntin multi-pane sash. I also have Taunton's "Windows and Doors" by Scott McBride. This is more about installing and fixing, so not applicable to making traditional sash.
I've attached a picture of the sash I built for my Timber Frame building.

According to Borders books it is in print for $19.95 and I have ordered one but I'm guessing they will call back and tell me their website was incorrect and it is out of print because the going price on Amazon.com as of 5 minutes ago for a "used-good condition" version is $96.99. Hold onto your library of books and you may be wealthy some day. I think I will try a library and xerox what I need. The photo of your windows was good and they appear quite similar to what I am looking to build.
