I have a chance to buy a Makita 1211 scms. How does it compare to the new Makita 1212? Thanks.

Makita LS1211
This 12-inch saw jumps considerably when turned on. The 15 amp, hypoid-geared motor gives off more torque than expected. The head of the saw jerks up when you start the tool and jerks down when you let go of the trigger--not a desirable feature for a finish tool. The tool has one large single rail for a slide, which is very smooth. An accordion-type plastic sleeve keeps the slide dust free. The 96-tooth blade that comes with the saw gave the smoothest cut of all tested. No detents on the turntable for crown molding. Bevel adjustment is very smooth, as is the miter table's action. The miter scale is hard to read. A powerful, accurate saw, but the start-up kick drops it behind its competitors.
Amps: 15 RPM: 4,000 Weight: 51 pounds Maximum Bite, Straight Chop: 3-11/16 inches thick by 12-3/16 inches wide Maximum Bite, Compound Cut: 2 inches thick by 8-1/2 inches wide
LS1212 SPECIFICATIONS
(Bevel/Miter): 90°/90° 3-7/8" x 12-1/4"; 45°/45° 2-3/16" x 8-5/8" No load Speed: 3,200 rpm Amps: (115V) 15.0
I think they're similar on capacity although I don't know if the LS1211 mitre's 45* L to 60*R. I think the big difference is the dual support rods are more stable and the electronic speed control soft start on the LS1212. I have the LS1212 and have no complaints.
