Makita 2040 planer restoration
I recently picked up a Makita 2040 planer. As expected the rollers were cooked but it was all there and the price was right. I removed the roller cores and sent them out for recovering so I figured I’d clean this beauty up while I’m waiting to get them back. My question is, what’s the best way to clean off all of the goo/residue from the disintegrated rollers? I’m thinking lacquer thinner maybe? I’m sure several of you have dealt with this mess. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Mike

I just picked up a Makita 2040 the other day and the rollers were completely melted off on to the feed table, must have been sitting for years. Just wondering what did you use to clean up the goo? I was thinking mineral spirits. And if you don’t mind sharing, Where did you send your roller cores to get recovered and how much did they quote you for? I’m itching to to start refurbishing this beast!
Need rollers for Mikita 2040 .
