There’s a Makita 2711 (no stand) in a second hand shop for $35. It has surface rust and I didn’t check to see if it runs. I don’t know what else might be wrong with it at this point. Is a Maktia 2711 worth $35 to spend some time looking it over more carefully, seeing if it runs, etc?

If it runs and the sliding table is all there it's well worth looking at.
Thanks.
Now that you mention it, the sliding table was there but it looked like some attachments were missing.
Dear G,
You did well. That saw went for around $500.00 in the early 90's let's see gas was under $2.00 per gallon, then, it is $3.15 now, so replacement on that saw based upon gas prices would be $815.00!!!! All that aside, yes that is well worth the money that you paid for it, that was a very good saw and the slide was actually useful!

John, I didn't buy it yet. I'll go back to the store over the weekend to see what all's wrong with it. But based on your response and dgreen's it looks like a good gamble.
We went back to the store and my brother bought it. Some missing pieces for the miter table (easily found online), and the plastic base is broken. Other than that it runs like a dream.
They also have a Ridgid radial arm saw, looks practically new for $250.
Glad to hear about the Makita. I steer clear of Ridgid power tools. I broke down and got the Ridgid bandsaw, you get what you pay for! Good Luck!John
