What’s the word on the Makita 3606 fixed base router? My inexpensive Craftsman quit in the middle of a dado yesterday. 1/4″ straight bit at a 3/8″ depth into plywood–did I expect too much? I would’ve done it in multiple passes except the depth adjustment mechanism was so hard to work with that it was unreasonable to stop and change depth with each pass.
I’m looking at the Makita. On Amazon with a promotion and free shipping it’s coming in at around $87. It’s a trade up from what I had, and at the upper edge of my price range. Is it a good router? What’s the depth adjustment mechanism like? Smooth, easy to use?
Thanks in advance.

It's awfully light duty, all plastic case, small bearings and 1/4" collet only. Bump your upper limit a bit. The Porter Cable 690 can be had now for $120 and is a much more capable machine.
Thanks. I've been scouting it (PC 690) out on the 'net. I'll have to get into a store that sells that model to get a feel for it.
