Yep, there's one in my shop. Wanna see it?? It's been plugging along since 1980 and doing fine. It's not for sale, though. That may change, depending on what my surgeon says on the 18th--there's not a lot of demand for one-armed carpenters but my partner probably thinks he should get first shot at it.
You might lose your arm?
why?
I'm not sure what's going to happen. I fell in an ice storm a couple years ago and did a first class job of busting up my arm and elbow. It took a couple operations to reconstruct everything. A number of months later the doctor said it was healed and that I'd me more comfortable if I came back in a year to get all the hardware removed. More comfortable sounded optional to me and, since I'm still paying of some pretty big medical bills, I didn't go back for more surgery to remove that doctor's erector set. It's been pretty painful from the beginning and pretty limiting. One particularly bad day, I called another doctor thinking about having all that stuff removed. It turns out that one of the big breaks never did heal, the plate that's holding that bone together is broken from metal fatigue and it's going to take bone grafts to try to fix it. I'm going back Wednesday to try to figure out how much money is involved and just what the chances for success are. In the mean time; I ordered this orthopedic elbow and forearm brace that looks like, with enough duct tape, might hold me together for a while. Somehow, duct tape seems real appropriate at this point--I might even hang an advertisement for the first doctor on my arm.
You know Larry, I'm sorry to hear about your problem. It just amaze's
me how in this county we can find the money to forgive other country's debts. (poland, etc) and find money to fund drugs for people who don't take responsibility for their own actions (AIDS) we take illegial immigrants in and spend time processing them, feeding them, giving them FREE legal help, and the list goes on with the money the Feds piss away. But we can't find the money to help our own citizens.
Hey maybe you can get Bono to give you a benefit concert. After all
he advocates that the USA forgive other countries debts owed to us also. How very big of him.
Good luck Larry

Tough to find used. I believe Makita no longer imports the 2040 to the US. It had gotten pricey versus it's Taiwanese competition. Great machine- I regret the day I sold mine.
Is that the combination jointer planer or the stand alone planer? I saw an ad for the combo machine not too long ago. Actually, my friend have one that needs new rollers. Dunno if he wants to sell it. How much are you offering?
Cheers
Mitt
Nope. Had mine 20 years and still going strong. Good luck in your search. Its worth it. Lee
I found one on ebay, $650 plus shipping, like new. I had been looking for several years.
I saw an add for new ones in the Woodworker West. It may have been John King Co. in Pasadena, CA, I will dig around to see if I can find the ad.
You might try the used tool places, some are on the internet.
Curt
I have a rather vague response for you. I saw two Makita planers at a new and used tool store in Middlesex NJ a few months ago. I think the name of the place was Trade&Tool Supply Co located on Rt 28. Tel# 732-968-0830
