I’m looking at a new 12″ CMS so that I can leave one on the bench dedicated to the shop and take my old one on jobsites. My question is whether I should buy the Makita or the Bosch. Both are on sale at my local big box. Does one of them come with a better blade than the other? Seems that I’ve heard that both blades were fairly nice.
Thanks,
Eric

FWIW my Makita LS1212 (slider) w/ a FSTools HD Mitre blade walks on water. The stock thin-kerf blade is great for light stock but deflected a bit when cutting compound scarfs in heavier stock. The FS will leave perfect pyramids on 2" sq. QSWO end grain. I mean perfect as in glass smooooooth, no sanding required. I do almost all my cross cutting on my slider and I frequently use 8/4 - 12/4 stock. I bought a bunch of 4" x 10" x 10' walnut and it slices that up like butter.

What's this "FSTools HD Mitre blade" you're raving about --- Forrest?********************************************************

John,
Thanks for your input on the saw. I have the same question that Nikkiwood had though. What is the blade you are talking about?
Thanks,

FS Tools are located in Canada. I get them locally from California Woodworking Machinery in Anaheim, CA. They have a web site:

Not sure basing your choice on the blade quality is in your long-term interest. If they saws are in a dead tie quality-wise, sure, but if either is a batter saw then that's the one to get. I own a Bosch 12" CMS, bought last year, and love it but have never used (or been able to afford) the Makita.

Thanks for your reply. I agree with you about basing my decision on the blade. The reason I asked, is that intially, I don't have the money to buy a better blade after I just bought the saw. I know people swear on both of them, the saws that is, so I think that it comes down to personal preference. The Makita has a $50 rebate on it which makes it cheaper, but the Bosch comes with a free digital protractor from Bosch.
Thanks again.

If you are concerned about the blade that comes equipped with the saw, I can tell you that the blade in the Makita (at least the 1013) is really superb. In fact I liked it so much I bought another. The brand is #### (sp?).********************************************************

I'm going to try that brand once again -- ####. I can't imagine why this name would not get past the Taunton censors.********************************************************

I was describing a dust collection problem and could not get it to accept ####. I'll try it in fake German: doest buunnies.
Wierd...........I'd like to know the logic behind all this censorship.********************************************************

Yeah, it'd be sort of fun to poke it until we figured it out. :) For example, I can talk about dust all day, don't know about bunnies (buunnies). But when I put the words next to each other, dust is suddenly bad too (####). I guess bunnies (buunnies) is on a bad list due to a famous men's magazine's name for their models.
Now that is really funny. It took dust on its own, bunnies on its own, but the two together (####) is somehow wrong.
That is wild.
Also have you noticed that if you skip an extra space after the letter "a", you also get bleeped, as in:"The big gray cow jumped over ####yellow moon.""The big gray cow jumped over a yellow moon."********************************************************

Nikki -- please send me an email and explain. I'm not figuring it out, but I'd like to get Mark to fix it if he can. Seems like every one is more concerned with what blade comes with the saw opposed to how weel the saw is designed and performs. A good saw blade in a wobbly saw makes poor cuts.
I think we can all agree that, neither Makita or Bosch make wobbly saws. But it is a nice bonus if the CMS you choose comes with a really good blade.
It's also nice when someone post's, if they have information to share about what's being discussed.
