Has anyone used aftermarket planer blades for the Makita 2012?
Some claim they notice no difference in quality.

With one exception, for the DeWalt planer, I wasn't aware that anyone made aftermarket blades for any other portable planer. Who sells aftermarket blades for the Makita?
Well John, East Tech through Amazon.com @ $31.99.
I questioned whether they were a genuine Makita product because of the attractive retail.
The answer was "aftermarket, but same quality"
You aren't taking a big risk by trying the aftermarket blades, but at best they will probably only be as good as the Makita blades and they could easily be worse. Good tool steel is very expensive and the manufacture of blades is technically challenging. It would be very easy, and tempting, for a manufacturer that is trying to compete on price to save a buck or two by buying lesser quality steel or taking some shortcuts when making the blades.
You can buy Makita brand blades for just seven or eight dollars more at Amazon, they are probably worth the extra price for the assurance of top quality.
