Still thinking about taking the “plunge” into owning a router (have used/borrowed some in the past)
Anyone use the Makita RF1101. Does this seem like a good deal?

versus this?

In my opinion, both of those are good products, both at good prices.
Note that when I did my research(about 6 months ago), I ended up buying the Makita M12V. It's got 50% more horses, and is less money. Agreed, it does not have the fixed base -- but I can lock the plunge base at any hieght I want.
They're both good combo kits, but I think you could do better on the price, at least $20 less on either. Also, the Bosch kit is often packaged with the deluxe edge guide, something I didn't see in the Harbor Freight ad. Try Amazon.com for no tax or shipping as well.
I own the Makita system.... Love it!
It was engineered to be same dimensioned as the porter cable routers. This is nice because many of the accessories that fit the pc will also fit the makita. And the pc was the gold standard for a very long time so accessories can be found easily and cheaply.
I have a lot more to say but will have to chime in again later. I'll leave it at this though....
I love the makita system. I also just like makita tools in general. It is not a perfect system and there are things about it that I don't like. But overall, I would probably buy it again.
