I’m looking for a cradle. I remember touring a historic home in Peabody and seeing one on display. It was actually a bench and rocker at the same time. Also it had holes and a railing that fit into the holes so that a person could sit on one side and read or knit or anything else while the baby sat next to them and could be rocked. I contacted the President of the Peabody Historical Society and the curator of that house and was told the same thing. This item is one of the pieces that they do not have a lot of information on. It has always been referred to as “The Mammy Bench”. It goes back to a time when the servants cared for the children and it was a way that they could rock the baby to sleep and catch up on some knitting at the same time. Do you know where I could get plans to make it?
I recently found this site http://www.chicago-antiques.com/fk-antique_mammys_bench.htm with one, but I’d still like the plans to try and make it. Can you help me out? I’ve been looking for it for over a year.
