When creating a model, I typically group the components in an assembly and tag them all together. For example, a cabinet door would have 5 components : 2 stiles, 1top rail, 1 bottom rail, 1 panel. These components would share the tag, Door.
When creating a scene, I copy the group off to one side, turn off all other components, adjust the view, add dimensions and when done editing save the scene. Usually several scenes are required to fully break down and dimension a group, which means repeating the process of copying off to the side, hiding the last scene, creating the new one until all are complete. This works okay but can get messy and confusing with a complex model.
I’m thinking a better strategy would be to draw the model on the untagged layer, group the assembly’s as before. Then copy the assembly off for editing and dimensioning, create a tag for the copy and a scene with the same definition, then repeating as needed so the view of the prior scene could be turned off by clicking off the tag instead of selecting and using the “hide” function.
Any thoughts on this
