I am making a cradle of hard maple for my daughter. It is all cut out and then she tells me she wants to more or less match her other maple furniture which is a reddish medium brown. I tried Pratt & lambert early american maple stain on a piece of srap and 5 coats left very little color in fact its hard to tell the differance between 1 coat and 5 coats any suggestions would be greatly appriciated. Thanks Bob H.

Hi Bob-
I just finished a maple table using Jeff Jewitt's early American maple recipe. It turned out better than I could have ever hoped. Simply gorgeous -imho. Here is the link

A reasonably significant investment in materials but, even if you like the finish half as much as I do, you will be using on a many more pieces in the future.
Best of luck-

Thanks Doc, I'll give it a try. I went to my local Rocklers Woodworking store and they couldn't help. At least the person I talked to didn't help.
You're very welcome. Let me know if I can help out if you decide to go this route.
