I’m startung to do marquetry using the window method. The books recommend PVA glue aka white glue. I can buy genuine PVS glue mail order. It appeasrs to be a specialty item. But the books inmply it is very common. Is good old Elmer’s white glue true PVA glue? A lot of Glue spec sheets don’t tell you what they contain.

Elmers as well as yellow glues (Titebond, Probond, et al) are PVA's
If you build it he will come.
Yes, Elmer's is PVA, , and I think the yellow is Aliphatic resin. If you can use one, you should be able to use either.
However, marquetry at its heart is veneering, and I and most professionals normally recommend using more rigid glues like Unibond 800, or epoxy especially if you are doing any large areas.
