Does anyone have a diagram or a reference to an article that explains the best way to match the grain at the 4 corners of a box? I want the grain to look continuous around the perimeter of the box.

MJ,
The best way is to use a piece of lumber twice as thick as your finished box side, and resaw it. Open it up on a table so it shows a perfect bookmatch. Then flip the sides over one more time so the bookmatches are back to back, facing out. The grain will wrap perfectly around the box, provided you cut the pieces in order (side, front, side, back). Not sure if I am explaining it correctly, and this only works with thick stock, but it assures a perfect wrap of grain around the box.

Thank you! I had read an article on this sometime ago, and must have forgotten about the resawing. That solves my mystery.Fostering the artistic rebirth of trees.

The only way that you can match all 4 corners on a box is by resawing a thicker piece. But what I do is take my board that I decide to use and then starting at one end mark out for my left side then leaving a small space for waste I then mark out for the front, repeat and mark out the right side those leaving you with the last part of the board for the back.
This will give a box where the grain flows from the left side of the box across the front around the right side and around to the back. But the grain will stop at the back left corner. But if you think about it, when a person picks up your box and looks at it, I would venture to say that 98% of people will pick it up and turn it to the right. Thus never really looking at the back left corner. Or at least that will be the last place the look.
But this way guarantee that your grain will flow all the way around you box.
