I am adding a bookcase and paneled walls to a den in which the French doors and the window trim was finished with Quick 15 , an alkyd finisher sealer six years ago. No stain was used. When I use the Quick 15 on the new wood it is much paler. I cannot tell whether this is due to the aging of the finish on the doors and windows or simply the color of the oak I am using. I would like to be able to come close to what is already in the room. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Bob,
Oak changes color with age like all woods. If you use the same finish on the new work, the wood will eventually age to the same color tones as the older work. Exposing the wood to diret sunlight for a week or two will start the aging process and develop some color on the new wood.
The alternative is to add a little color to the new work; a light/dilute yellow/orange/brown stain or dye.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. As soon as we get some sun here in Michigan I'll set out my lumber. In the meantime I'll investigate the availability of the color you suggest.

Bob,
Just to pick up on Paul's idea...a couple of weeks ago I was trying to blend three different oaks with a bit of Trans Tint in BLO (boiled linseed oil)...so if you have lots of scraps....
