I am a chairmaker looking for a more flexible material to make patterns/ templates out of then poster board. I am looking for a product with a edge, good flexibility and that is easy to cut. I use 1/4 and 1/2 ply as template stock for flat pattern making.
Has anyone heard of flaw board? (Has anyone ever bought a flawed board?) It is supposedly sold at art supply stores.
I’ll be happy to hear your ideas and sources.
Thanks

Flaw board, I think, is an old name for a type of mounting board. There are all kinds of mounting boards. Art supply stores are very interesting for woodworkers. They have lots of neat stuff, tools, brushes, papers, often drafting supplies, gold leaf, obviously paint. Some of the mounting boards may be good for rigid patterns. There is one type with a thin aluminum on one side and high impact plastic on the other, jetboard?. Another is almost like a light 1/4" MDF, taskboard.
Metal workers use something that looks like smooth vinyl. It can conform to pipes and irregular surfaces. It also looks a little like the cover used on drafting boards. It's possible some types of vinyl flooring would work. Marine fitters and upholstery makers use a clear vinyl like product specifically made for patterns. It won't stretch, see through could be a real benefit.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
Great ideas! I will check all of it out. I think mounting board may be a good answer. The woodworker who told me about flaw board said he coats the pattern with clear coat to make it last. I will check out the vinyl flooring idea also.
Thanks
