I’m planning on building some kitchen cabinets which I know will be painted. They have Face Frames of poplar with inset doors. The doors, too, will be poplar with an MDF raised panel. My question has to do with carcass construction where the plywood face will be visible. I’m thinking of using MDO since I know it takes paint well – my only question has to do with wear and look. What would wear and look best – the painted MDO or painted Birch ?
Thanks in advance,
Robert.

Robert,
I'm also about to build kitchen cabinets using poplar which will be painted. I'm considering using birch plywood for the cases and birch (or maple) for the the drawer boxes and then clear finishing the birch interior. I think that the contrast between the painted exterior and clear-finished interior might look nice. Just a thought.
That's a good point. I guess I'd have to paint the MDO inside and out, while a clear finished birch would be nicer.
